CHRISTMAS IN SCICLI
Living Christmas in Scicli is a unique experience, the city offers a natural nativity scene in order to underline the Christmas atmosphere, especially at dusk and at night. The Christmas days are punctuated by the rhythms, the stories and the traditional flavors. The feast of the Immaculate Conception accompanies the city into the Christmas spirit. There are two statues of the Madonna, of their respective brotherhoods, Santa Maria La Nova and that of the SS. Crucifix of San Bartolomeo, which are carried in procession at a distance of one week apart. The previous evenings every procession are devoted "to the Immaculate Canzoncine", two events that have historical significance for sciclitani. The whole city comes together in a huge procession animated by the band for hours in an atmosphere of celebration and communion, songs dedicated to the Virgin. After the week dedicated to the Immaculate, Scicli dresses magic to celebrate Christmas. Private and parishes inaugurate their nativity scenes that form the so-called 'Street of Cribs'. The route runs through the historic city center and offers visitors different types of nativity, freely interpreted by various authors, all enthusiasts of this ancient Christian tradition. On Christmas Day and on the occasion of 'Epiphany, the' Cavuzza 'Santa Maria la Nova immersed in a natural setting, place the representations of the' Living Nativity ', plays popular in which the characters of' old event come alive to recall the birth of Christ.
